From the recording You Carried Me
Lyrics
I’ve walked a long and troubled road,
Lost my children, then my home.
Made mistakes I can’t undo,
God, I’m crying out to You.
I battled demons face to face,
Screamed for mercy, begged for grace.
Two sets of prints... then one remained,
Right when the sky — gave way to rain.
The nights were long, the pain was real,
I questioned love, forgot to feel.
I saw the storm, I felt the fall,
But I never saw You — there at all.
One set of footprints in the sand,
When I fell apart and couldn’t stand.
I thought You left me — there to break,
But You carried every step I had to take.
Along the path I couldn’t see,
Then held me tightly — in Your hands.
Lord, my God — please help me see,
What a better man — is meant to be.
I begged for peace but found regret,
The more I ran, the more I’d fret.
Tried to hold all the pieces tight,
But every day — became a fight.
I looked for You, but couldn’t see,
Through the smoke, heartbreak, and tragedy.
I fell so far — I thought I'd die,
But still I begged, and still I cried.
Oh God — “Why did You let me drown?”
And still... — You never made a sound.
One set of footprints in the sand,
My hope was gone, I had no plans.
I thought You turned away from me,
But You were bleeding — underneath.
Lord, my God — please help me see,
What a better man — is meant to be.
I see it now — I know the truth,
Those prints weren’t mine — they all were You.
Through fire and flood, my darkest night,
Your love still led me — to the light.
The storms hit hard — but now I see:
You never once — let go of me.
I cursed the sky, I cursed Your name,
Thought You were gone — left me in shame.
But now I trace those steps through tears,
And see Your love — through all the years.
I never walked alone…
Even when I ran — from grace.
In the silence — in the storm—
You carried me… — all the way.
